SUMMARY:Waldron Fen Preserve Bird Walk – Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 9AM
DESCRIPTION:Waldron Fen near Alanson: Meet at Banwell Road parking area\nSaturday June 3 at 9:00 a.m. with Kenyon Stebbins (and Tracy Datlen) (rain date Sunday June 4 at 9:00 a.m.)\nIf you’re coming via US 31, allow extra time for road construction. (From Petoskey you can take Pickerel Lake Road to Banwell Road and avoid US 31 entirely.)\nKenyon Stebbins, former Petoskey Audubon president, will host a leisurely walk at this beautiful preserve. This hidden jewel is located near the east end of Pickerel Lake, not far from Alanson.\nWe’ll explore the loop trail for migrating and resident birds, and enjoy a variety of habitats including wetlands, grasslands, and pine woods. This is a birding Hot Spot and a total of 135 species of birds have been recorded here. This is one of our birdiest locations and one of our most social outings. The group will be divvied up so the talkers can be in the back and the bird-by-ear people in the front.\nThis is a truly magical spot and worth visiting any time of year. For members of PRAS, it’s a place we like to enjoy together.\nMeet at the parking lot on the east side of the north-south section of Banwell Road (which is the west edge of the preserve, there is no entrance on Miller Road).\nFree and open to the public. As always, no dogs and no smoking on any PRAS field trip. Children welcome with adult supervision. Bring binoculars and a field guide if you have them, and dress for the weather.\n
