SUMMARY:Petoskey Audubon Feb. 11 Program “Albatross of the Southern Ocean”
DESCRIPTION:\nAlbatross are some of the most iconic yet rarely observed birds on the planet. Living for decades far from land they push the limits of our understanding of what birds can do. By far the most abundance of these animals is the Southern Ocean. These windy-swept latitudes hold scattered rocky islands that is where many of them call home. Presenter, Steve Backus, will talk about the diversity, lives, and conservation of the albatross off the coast of South America.\nBackus is an avid birder and naturalist hailing from North Carolina. He primarily works as a shipboard naturalist and feels particularly drawn to the world’s oceans and seabirds that occupy it. Through years of working as a guide on pelagic bird-watching trips, the fall waterbird counter at Whitefish Point, and many other positions Backus has experienced many corners of the world and delights in bringing those stories to everyone who will listen.\nThe program is hosted by Petoskey Audubon on Tuesday, February 11 on zoom at 7pm.
