Birding Along the Bear River

Join Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council staff and the Petoskey Regional Audubon Society members for two guided birding walks along the Bear River this spring. Supported by the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation’s Little Traverse Bay Restoration Fund, these events are part of a broader effort to connect people with the Bear River corridor and support ongoing restoration work through the Healing the Bear Initiative.

Whether you’re brand new to birding or have years of experience, all are welcome to join us in slowing down, observing, and appreciating the birds and habitats that make this ecosystem unique. Early May is an ideal time for birding. Brightly colored male birds are singing to attract a mate and establish a territory. The leaves on the trees are just opening up so it is easier to see the birds.

On the birding walk on May 18 we will walk along the Bear River to see and hear birds. It will take place 8:30am to 10:10am. We will meet at the Bear River Picnic Shelter. Parking is available on Quaintance Ave, Petoskey.  The walk is free, but please RSVP by clicking here.
