Petoskey Audubon February 10 Virtual Program – Birds of the Aegean Sea

The Aegean Sea, a delightful corner of the Mediterranean, with its over 150 islands offers rich avian diversity. When arid land meets the sea biology takes interesting twists and turns occupying it. From tubenoses to raptors, gamebirds to songbirds, flamingos to pelicans, many interesting avian communities have carved a niche for themselves in this beautiful and accessible region. Presenter Steve Backus will explore some of the iconic species of the area and how they occupy this destination.

An avid birder and long-term mariner, it was easy for Backus to fall for the waterbirds. Between his work as a captain, naturalist guide, and ornithological field technician he’s been lucky to spend countless hours in marine environs and learn about their inhabitants. Like any curious naturalist, Backus is always eager to learn about the environments around us, and like any good sailor, he’s excited to share a story about them.

The program is hosted by Petoskey Audubon on Tuesday, February 10 on zoom at 7pm. The program is free and open to all interested people. Join the program at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83433038001
